ALL roads led to Qatar National Convention Centre on Saturday as thousands of residents across ages and nationalities gathered to take part in the sixth edition of the highly-anticipated The Color Run.
The 2020 edition of the five kilometre, untimed fun run presented by Sahtak Awalan: Your Health First was the largest to date with the participation of more than 10,000 people.
As early as 7am, excited runners made their way to the event venue. While all donned the official Color Run outfit the white t-shirt, many got into the festive mood and came in colourful bandanas and tutus, as well as put on fancy sunglasses and headgears.
With the event’s theme ‘Love Tour’, the participants made the most of the gathering and came with their families and friends.
Dana al Ali, Weil Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) student and Your Health First ambassador (YHF), officially raised the flag at the starting line as the first batch of The Color runners set off at 8.30am.
“The Color Run is such an exciting event. This is my second year participating and the energy is just amazing. Everyone is so positive and enthusiastic each year and I love seeing all the families and children making the most of the event. Each year it just gets better and better”, said Dana.
The runners made their way to each colour station starting from orange to red, green and then blue. They were doused from head to toe in different coloured powder as they happily made their way to the finish line either by running or walking. Medals were handed over to the runners who reached the finish line.
A large number of runners were first-timers to the event. They expressed their excitement over their participation in the event. “I am amazed by the number of people, who like me, were excited to hit the colour run course. The atmosphere is festive, yet you can feel the positive vibes of one united community having so much fun together”, said Zha Zha, a first-timer.
Another Color Run first-timer was Ava, who came with her daughter Victoria. She said, “I know that this is fun, family-oriented event that also promotes healthy lifestyle. It is a wonderful idea to engage families and the youth in such a worthwhile activity. I look forward to our family’s next participation in this event”
The Color Run is a global phenomenon that has been experienced by more than 7 million people worldwide in more than 40 countries since its inception in 2012. It has donated $5 million to charity to date. This year’s event supported education for out-of-school children by donating a portion of the proceeds to ‘Together’ education project in Qatar.
Commenting on the occasion, Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar Chief Communications Officer Nesreen al Rifai said, “Our aim is to raise awareness of the importance of staying active and its relevance to our overall physical and mental health. We are happy to have succeeded in achieving this and contributing to the fulfilment of Qatar Foundation’s vision for community development.”
Event Director Christian Moufarrej said, “The turnout has been absolutely amazing this year. We are so grateful to everyone who supports the event and our charity year after year in Doha. Thank you to everyone for joining The Color Run Love Tour, and we are looking forward to next year already!”
