Al Duhail’s caretaker coach Bruno Oliveira said the team will not accept another loss in the wake of Rui Faria’s departure earlier this week.
The Red Knights lost the Qatar Cup final last Friday against Al Sadd which led to the resignation of the Portuguese coach.
However against Al Arabi on Friday, the league leaders know a win will furhter extend their grip on the league title, heading into the business end of the season.
“I have had the privilege to work with departed coach Rui Faria. He is a distinguished person, as a coach and as a human being. I wish him success in his future career.
“The Al Arabi game will be difficult, especially because they have been doing well this season. We will not accept another loss. Any defeat will leave everyone with a feeling of shock and sadness as we are used to achieving victories,” Oliveira said.
On the mentality of the players, he said, “When you achieve many victories, it means that you have a strong will. If you lose, you must recover quickly in order to get the players out of the sad situation. I am confident that our players have the ability to take the team to victory against Al Arabi.”
However, Al Arabi coach Heimir Hallgrimsson said Al Duhail will want to make a statement win which will make the match more difficult.
Al Arabi have struggled with form and consistency this season – having picked up five points from a possible 15 in their last five league matches.
“It will be difficult for both teams. We are able to make things difficult for Al Duhail. At the same time, our opponents have not lost a game so far in the league and have outstanding players in their ranks.
“In Al Duhail, there are big changes and they want to make a strong comeback, especially after their loss to Al Sadd in the Qatar Cup. We are mindful of all these matters and are ready for them,” Hallgrimsson said.
Al Arabi will be without Morteza Pouraliganji and Abdulrahman Anad through injury while Michelle Lasogga is also a doubt.
“We may miss some players for this match, but it is good that the Qatar Olympic team players have returned to the team’s fold.”
Qatar Sports Club take on Al Wakrah at the Qatar SC Stadium also on Friday in what promises to be a thrilling match between the eighth and ninth-placed teams.
Both teams can jump into the top six with a win.
