HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Thani-owned Al Shaman and Off He Goes clinched two out of four feature races to dominate the 26th Race Meeting at the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club Racecourse in New Al Rayyan on Thursday.
Despite cold and dank conditions, the Julian Smart-schooled Al Shaman and Off He Goes were ridden superbly by Tomas Lukasek. The six-year-old bay horse Al Shaman bagged the Al Areeq Cup 1,600m for Thoroughbreds (Class 2) with a three-quarter win over Veranda. Holder Qatari Gold came third with a neck difference against Al Adaid and Pazeer was fifth.
Off He Goes, a six-year-old gelding, followed the stablemate in the next race and held off defending champion Duke of Dundee by a nose to emerge the champion in the Khor Al Adaid Cup (QA Gr 3) 2,800m. Masterpiece was third by a little less than a length. Otwo was fourth, beating Quelindo by a length. Barring the winner and Masterpiece, rest of the top five were all higher-rated runners.
Both Al Shaman and Off He Goes posted their first wins of the season, helping the owner, the trainer and the rider wrap up a delightful treble. Lukasek helmed Ebraz to a one-length victory in the Purebred Arabian Conditions 1,850m.
Rebounding from his runner-up finish to Al Shaqab Racing’s Al Naama in the HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani Cup earlier this month, the seven-year-old grey horse beat Chamekh to record his second victory in three outings. With this result, the double HH The Amir’s Sword winner took his winners to 13 in 28 races.
Engineer Hassan Alabdulmalik’s Seeyoubyme and Ex Miss extended their sparkling runs in the season and completed a splendid double for him by winning the Thoroughbred Classic Race 2,000m (Class 2) and Thoroughbred Pearl 2,000m (Class 2).
Trained by Deborah Mountain, Seeyoubyme, a four-year-old grey gelding, produced a fine finishing dash under Ryan Curatolo to beat Khalifa bin Sheail al Kuwari’s Sam Langford by one length and a quarter. Zamharer was third, being a neck ahead of Markhor and Muraikh completed the top five.
This was the third win in four races for Seeyoubyme, who was sixth in the Qatar Derby (Gr 2) in his debut year here.
With Curatolo astride, Ex Miss edged Star Of War, ridden by Adrie de Vries, by a neck to post her third triumph in four runs in the season. Overall, it was her fifth start for the Ahmed Kobeissi trainee who had beaten Star Of War to win the Qatar Oaks for fillies (Gr 3 QA) last month as well.
Romantic Heart, with JP Guillambert astride, was third by two lengths and a half, while Mahaarat was fourth and Festive, who finished fourth last season, grabbed the fifth spot.
Black Pearl, owned by Abdulatif al Emadi, has been on a hot run in the season. The four-year-old black gelding recorded his fourth winner in as many races to win the Local Thoroughbred Plate for four years olds, beating Ifreet by one and a half lengths. Rosasa was third by four lengths behind.
Enab, owned by Rakan Khames Abuzulf and trained by Majed Seifeddine, was ridden to the second victory on the trot by Ronan Thomas in the Local Purebred Arabian Handicap 1,600m. The seven-year-old bay gelding, the winner of the Purebred Arabian Claiming Race last month, got the better of Muthhil by quarter of a length and Al Wannah came third.
Kasser was led to the Local Purebred Arabian Conditions 1,200m victory by Meteb Ali al Marri. Trained and owned by Engineer Mohammed al Sheeb, the nine-year-old bay horse defeated Al Mustafiz by a neck for his second win in eight runs in the season.
Theo Bachelot steered Daneyan to a second triumph in six races in the season as the Khalifa bin Sheail al Kuwari’s five-year-old grey horse outsprinted Finding Nero by one and a quarter lengths in the Thoroughbred Handicap 2,000m (Class 3).26th Race Meeting Results (Turf)THOROUGHBRED HANDICAP (Class 3) 2,000m
