Those who abandon their home countries as a result of climate change have no claim to asylum or refugee protection in Germany, according to the country’s government.
A link exists between climate change, migration and seeking refuge, but this connection has not yet been sufficiently examined, an Interior Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.
“Most studies indicate that environmental changes are triggers but not the only root causes of decisions to migrate,” he said.
