HAMAD Dental Center, part of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), held its first symposium with the participation of more than 110 dentistry professionals from public and private sectors in Qatar and abroad recently.
Held at HMC’s Bayt Al Dhiyafah, the one-day event aimed to highlight the importance of interdisciplinary dental management of children.
Dr Khalifa al Ansari, vice-chair (Education), HMC Dental Center and president of the symposium’s organising committee, said the event provided an ideal platform for the local dental community to exchange ideas with leading international experts to enrich the field of dentistry in the country.
He said the latest scientific research and treatment methods and techniques in the field of paediatric dentistry were among the topics discussed.
Dr Ansari added that the treatment and prevention of diseases related to dental medicine in children and adolescents, and the latest surgical and non-surgical treatments to address dental disease in growing children were also highlighted at the symposium.
He also thanked the speakers and delegates for their participation in the event.
The symposium’s scientific programme included lectures from world-renowned speakers, including Professor Mandeep (Monty) Singh Duggal, professor of paediatric dentistry and vice dean and faculty research director at the National University Centre for Oral Health, Singapore.
Professor Duggal spoke on auto-transplantation, an interdisciplinary approach in the management of complex dental trauma cases.
HMC’s Dr Hani Nazzal gave a lecture on the emerging field of regenerative endodontics while Dr Kalaiarasu Peariasamy, head and consultant in peadiatric dentistry and NIH Malaysia spoke on the surgical management of dental conditions in children.
Ireland’s Dr John Walsh led a session on the field of interceptive orthodontics, which is a phased type of orthodontics.
The symposium was held under the patronage of HMC’s Medical Education Department and with support from Dr Ghanim al Mannai, Dental Service chairman.
The symposium organising committee included Dr Hani Nazzal, senior consultant, paediatric dentistry; Dr Najat Alhashimi, senior consultant and Orthodontics Division chief; Dr Jamal Alabdulla, head of Paediatric Dentistry section, and Dr Huda al Hashemi, senior consultant, prosthodontics and chair of the Hamad Dental Center CPD Committee.
The event concluded with both speakers and delegates participating in an open discussion. Conference attendees were eligible for Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.
