Eminent Indian mathematician, inventive educationist and founder of the globally acclaimed philanthropic ‘Super 30’ programme, Anand Kumar, was honoured for his philanthropic activities at the Global Education Centre (GEC) recently.
During his brief visit to Qatar, Kumar led two educational seminars at Al Khor and Al Wakra and visited the GEC’s corporate office in Doha.
Following the educational seminar at Al Wakra, Indian Ambassador to Qatar HE P Kumaran inaugurated a felicitation ceremony in honour of Kumar.
The ambassador lauded Kumar’s altruistic services and described him as “an epitome of love and sacrifice who has uplifted many poor lives to dazzling heights”.
The Indian envoy urged the community to emulate the exemplary humanitarian efforts of Kumar in the services of weaker sections of the society.
The event was attended by prominent philanthropists and Indian community leaders, including Shahabuddin, AP Manikandan, Pranav Kumar and Obaidur Rahman.
GEC Managing Partner Shrikumar welcomed the guests.
In his address, GEC Managing Director Ashraf Achoth said the centre has made another landmark achievement with the involvement of Anand Kumar in mentoring the pedagogic and learning approaches of the GEC faculty members and students.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said it was his mission to serve the disadvantaged as he too had had a tumultuous childhood with acute financial crises.
He recalled how he missed out availing himself the offer of studying in the coveted Cambridge University in the UK due to lack of funds following the sudden demise of his father who worked as a clerk.
He also exhorted the community members to leave footprints that stay even after one’s demise.
Kumar also lauded the students for their achievements as he distributed prizes to top performing students.
He also announced his plan to induct five students from Qatar, under the aegis of GEC. The training for this will be provided for free while GEC will bear all other associated expenses.
During the event, two prominent leaders of the Indian community, educationist Obaidur Rahman and noted philanthropist M.S Bukhari, were honoured with mementoes.
Mukesh Rishi delivered the vote of thanks.
