Izzthatright, with Theo Bachelot astride, produced a perfect performance and sprinted away with the Muaither Cup, the biggest race of the 24th Race Meeting at the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club Racecourse on Thursday.
Galloping with power and grace, the eight-year-old Injaaz Stud’s bay gelding won the 1,000m dash with a length for his third victory in four races in the season. Also this was the 21st triumph in 35 starts for the winner. Bachelot had steered Khalifa bin Sheail al Kuwari-owned Anima Rock to victory ahead of Izzthatright last season.
Take A Nap, ridden by Harry Bentley, was runner-up by a length, helping trainer Jassim Ghazali repeat a one-two just like last year. The Abdullah al Kuwari & Sons-owned Take A Nap was three quarters ahead of Abdulatif Al Emadi’s Munira Eyes. Top face beat Shobrom, fourth last year, by half a length to finish fourth.
Trainer Alban de Mieulle’s pupils dominated the day, winning four races. In the process, Umm Qarn had three winners as the owner and rider Ronan Thomas also completed a fine treble.
RS Rasheeda, second twice in the previous two races in the season, secured the firs victory for de Mieulle, cracking the top place. The Al Rabban Racing runner, with Thomas on the back, won the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate (fillies & mares) 1,850m with a massive 12 lengths ahead of Noor Al Meydan.
Al Kharu was ridden to a two-and-a-half-length triumph by Soufiane Saadi in the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate 1,200m for three years olds. The bay filly launched the career impressively, outrunning second-placed Al Hindi.
Djamil got the better of Albasos, another de Mieulle trainee, by a neck in the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate 1,600m for the second victory for both rider Thomas and owner Umm Qarn.
Bin General wrapped up a satisfying day for de Mieulle and Umm Qarn as Thomas teamed up with him to claim the Purebred Arabian Graduation Plate 2,200m. The five-year-old grey horse beat Evolution Du Croate by one length and three quarters to post his first win of the season after being runner-up twice.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bi Khalifa al Thani-owned Ennab dished out a strong display of pace as he downed Echo De Faust, ridden by Anas al Seyabi, by two lengths to bag the Purebred Claiming Race over 1,400m distance.
The Julian Smart-schooled seven-year-old bay gelding, ridden by Tomas Lukasek, was running in his second race of the season and it was his second success in 11 starts.
Diese, with Thomas riding, was third by less than four lengths against Zakho and Ellianka completed the top five finishers.
Smart had another winner in Methgal as the four-year-old grey colt beat AJS Al Moheeb and AJS Al Maha to bag the Purebred Arabian Handicap 1,600m. Ridden by Lukasek, Methgal was fourth in the first race last month but made amends today to finish on the top.
Mizoun and Angelic Queen both savoured the first taste of wins. The Al Sakab Stud’s five-year-old grey mare, running in sixth race, was ridden to the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate 1,400m victory by Leo Salles. She beat Al Khor Surprise by one length.
Angelic Queen, owned by Al Azraq Stable, made an impressive debut, winning the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate (Class 6) 1,200m sprint under Bentely. The three-year-old bay filly beat Nishan by half a length and Forced was third, also by half body.
