Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim bin Saif al Sulaiti has said the modern transport system, including the Metro and Metrolink, has helped reduce traffic by 20-25 percent, particularly during the rush hour.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a workshop on traffic organised by the National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) in cooperation with Ashghal, Sulaiti said the public transport plan includes launching more modern transport methods that will help reduce traffic in the future even further.
“The coming days will see the opening of car parks near metro stations that will encourage the public to use it. Modern transport will also be provided to highways that are not linked by the metro,” Sulaiti said. He hoped to see more use of the public transport in Qatar in the future.
The minister expressed Qatar’s keenness to achieve road safety by developing the latest solutions and by working on road safety plans.
“With the ongoing plans and the constant collaboration between ministries and the General Directorate of Traffic and Ashghal, we will reach effective solutions,” he said.
