THE Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) intensified its inspection campaign in December 2019, and cracked down on a total 160 cases of violations.
The top five violations included failing to issue invoices in Arabic (54), offering promotions without obtaining the necessary licence from the relevant department (23), displaying expired products (17) and failing to comply with the mandatory price bulletin of vegetables and fruits (10).
The penalties included administrative closures and fines ranging between QR5,000 and QR30,000, in line with the laws and ministerial decisions governing the Consumer Protection Department.
The campaign was carried out by the ministry to ensure compliance of retail outlets with laws and regulations related to consumer protection. It comes within the framework of the ministry’s efforts to monitor markets and commercial activities in order to detect price manipulation and other violations and protect consumers’ rights.
The ministry stressed that it will not tolerate any violations of the Consumer Protection Law and its regulations and will intensify its inspection campaign to crackdown on violations and refer violators to competent for necessary legal action.
