THE Enrico Mestica School in the Italian city of Macerata has sent a letter thanking Qatar for its contribution of 5.6 million euros to rebuild the school complex, which was damaged in the earthquake that struck the country in 2016.
In the letter, the teaching staff, students and their families have extended their thanks to Qatar for standing with them in this ordeal, pointing out that the geographical dimension between the two countries was not a barrier to the Qatari support.
The letter underlines the suffering of students who were transported to schools that were hosting them due to continuous earth shakes and its psychological effects on them.
The Qatari support through the reconstruction of the complex brought great relief to the students as Macerata celebrated the reopening of its school complex.
The reconstruction of the school is part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and Italian Government to donate 5.6 million euros to rebuild areas destroyed by earthquake.
The school complex includes several basic facilities, including a nursery, primary and secondary schools, as well as a gymnasium. The complex was built on an area of 24,000 square meters.
The project aims to ensure that the right to education of the children of Macerata is preserved and the educational services are resumed.
