THE Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) Qatar Group hosted their first end-of-the-year celebration dinner at City Centre Rotana Hotel recently, to celebrate its achievements in 2019. The event was attended by around 110 professionals from the transport and highway sector.
Eng Colin Smith inaugurated the event and a pre-recorded message was delivered by Martin Tugwell, president of CIHT, extending his good wishes to the CIHT Qatar Group for their efforts in the past seven years.
Keynote speakers were invited to give presentations on the achievements regarding their projects and specialisations. Raimund Hanauer, transport planning director of Qatar Rail, provided an overview of the developments in Qatar Rail in the past few years, the opening of Red Line in May, 2019, and the associated projects that Qatar Rail is embarking on complimenting the Metro service.
Pam Naidoo, resourcing manager of Vodafone, provided her insight on conflict resolution and its strategies, a soft skill for daily work environment.
The second part of the presentations was dedicated to projects that were recognised as ‘Highly Commended’ at the CIHT International Project Awards.
EngHerveEtave, on behalf of Arcadis Consulting Middle East, presented a drone video on Orbital Highway Contract 2 project whereas Prof Kim Jraiw, on behalf of National Traffic Safety Committee Qatar, shared his expertise on the Road Safety and Sustainable Transport Management project.
CIHT Qatar Group thanked and presented awards to the event sponsors including Arcadis, BG&E, DCE, Fugro, Jacobs, Muhel, PTV, QDC and WSP. The evening continued with welcoming and congratulating 9 new CIHT members, a raffle draw with sponsored prizes and a transportation quiz.
Veronica Yu, chair of CIHT Qatar Group, in her closing speech thanked the committee members and the attendees for their support.
