Amman: Oman’s Sultan Qaboos is in a stable condition, the state-run Oman News Agency reported on Tuesday, following rumours about the 79-year-old ruler’s health.
This is the first official comment from Oman since Qaboos made a short trip to Belgium for medical reasons earlier this month.
“His Majesty the Sultan is in a stable condition ... and follows the prescribed treatment,” the agency reported, quoting a statement by the royal court.
Since his return to Muscat, speculation swirled about his health and many people took to Twitter to praise and pray for the sultan. Qaboos has ruled the Gulf state since deposing his father in a bloodless coup in 1970 and he has been credited with transforming Oman into a modern country and an influential regional player. (DPA)
