Swift Gallopers made sure that there were no last-moment anxious moments as they defeated Flying Oryx by 27 runs and grabbed one of the semi-final spots in the Qatar T10 Cricket League on Saturday.
At the Asian Town Stadium, Swift Gallopers, batting first, recovered from two early blows to put 98 for six on the board. Ravinderpal Singh and skipper Kamran Akmal were the players who excelled and took the score close to three figures.
Singh smashed four sixes and a four in 34, facing only 18 balls, while opener Akmal’s 15-ball 25 contained a six and two boundaries. Bilawal Iqbal claimed two scalps for 14.
Mughees Bajwa and Zain Uddin derailed the crucial chase by Flying Oryx, for whom it was a must-win match to progress into the next stage. Both the bowlers grabbed two wickets apiece to put early pressure on the opponents. Only Iqbal showed some resistance during his 12b-ball 18, which had a six and two boundaries.
Man of the match Mohammed Imran made the life further difficult for the Oryx team. He grabbed three wickets for just 14 runs to restrict the rivals to 71 for eight.
With this results, three teams have managed to qualify for the last four stage of the League. Falcon Hunters and Desert Riders are other two outfits, besides Swift Gallopers.
The last match of the League phase pits Heat Stormers and Pearl Gladiators. The winner of this match may have an outside chance to overtake Oryx on the basis of a better net run-rate. Both have one point each from their washed out matches.
On Friday, Amad Butt and Mohammed Rizlan turned in stellar performances to guide Falcon Hunters in the semi-finals with a 37-run victory against Pearl Gladiators.
Opener Sikander Raza also smashed a blazing 87 not out to steer Dream Riders into the final four with a five-wicket win off the last ball.
The top qualifier will take on the fourth-placed team in a semi-final, while the second-placed face the third-placed outfit in other.
