The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed the stage one of construction works on the new 1.2km-long road that connects Al Tarfa Intersection (known as Gulf Intersection) to the new Qatar University Metro station. Ashghal also opened the road’s carriageway to traffic on Wednesday.
This opening is part of Ashghal’s strategy to improve the transport network in Qatar as the new road provides a direct access to the Doha Metro Red Line’s newly operational Qatar University Station.
Ashghal was keen to accelerate the completion of the first phase of the project to serve the launch of operations of the Qatar University Metro Station and facilitate access to it and will finish works on the second stage of the project by Q1, 2020.
The remaining works include the construction of a roundabout to connect with Qatar University, the provision of additional parking on both sides of the road, in addition to road lighting works, the development of a rainwater drainage network, and landscaping works on both sides of the road.
It is worth mentioning that this project falls within a series of projects implemented by Ashghal to improve the road network throughout the country and expand the streets to increase their capacities.
