QATAR Cancer Society (QCS) has launched ‘Our kids are gold’ programme to support children living with cancer and their families.
Dana Mansour, head of the Support Department for Individuals Living with Cancer at QCS, said the programme seeks to achieve a set of goals, including identifying the specific needs of this group, helping them deal with the side effects of cancer treatment, providing them with information and advice about healthy lifestyle, and improving their physical and psychological abilities.
The programme aims at improving the quality of life of children suffering from cancer during and after treatment and helping them reintegrate their role in society, she added.
The programme features activities aimed at bringing joy to the children living with cancer and motivate them to adopt a healthy lifestyle and play an active role in society.
She noted further that this year’s programme targets 100 such children and will have motivational activities like ‘I’m a survivor and I will inspire you with my story’ in which a cancer survivor shares his remarkable journey of battling with the disease and overcoming it with other cancer patients.
It will also include organising of periodic visits to the children living with cancer at the hospital. She also mentioned the financial support that the charity body provides for patients who are unable to meet the costs of treatment.
Rahaf Wasfi, support group officer at QCS, said: “The programme seeks to help children living with cancer and their families deal with the most common psychological and physical effects associated with the disease during and after treatment.”
