The Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) on Tuesday elected Speaker of Shura Council HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud as its board chair from 2019 to 2021, in a unanimous vote that took place on the sidelines of its 7th conference in Doha.
The Shura speaker expressed appreciation to his colleagues for choosing him for the post. He stressed that the vote reflected the international community’s appreciation of the efforts of Qatar under the leadership of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani in combating corruption.
He pledged to work with all parliamentarians in implementing the organisation’s plans, in addition to carrying out a number of initiatives and programmes that will develop the organisation’s work.
The Shura speaker expressed appreciation for the confidence they placed in him.
He emphasised that the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption deserves all the support it could get as it constitutes a unique contribution in preventing and fighting corruption, and in achieving sustainable development for future generations in a world that is witnessing rapid and radical changes.
He thanked Dr Fadli Zon for his leadership of the organisation and his wise management of its work and his efforts in developing its role. He also thanked the organisation’s board members for their efforts.
For his part, former Board Chair Zon expressed his confidence that the organisation will play a big role in the future under the Qatari leadership.
