The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani crowned the national football team of Bahrain, the winner of the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup, following their 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia at Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium on Sunday.
The Amir handed over the gold medals and the championship’s trophy to Bahraini players and silver medals to the Saudi players.
The crowning ceremony was attended by the Father Amir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al Thani, the Personal Representative of HH the Amir, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Thani and HE Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa al Thani.
Also, the ceremony was attended by President of the Asian Football Confederation HE Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim al Khalifa, sheikhs and ministers and heads of the Gulf Olympic committees and federations, heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to the state, senior officials in the sport field and a large numbers of fans.
The crowning ceremony started with the championship awards given in different categories. Qatar national team won the fair play award, Saudi Arabia’s Fawaz al Qarni won the best goalkeeper award, Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Otayf won the best player award. The final match refereeing team was also honoured. Earlier, the Amir attended the final match. (QNA)
