Israel’s Defence Ministry said on Thursday that the Czech Republic has agreed to buy eight Iron Dome mobile air defence radar systems in a deal worth a total of 152 millions dollars.
The eight ELM-2084 radars, which provide air surveillance and defence capabilities, will be delivered between 2021 and 2023, and work with Czech and NATO command systems, said a Defence Ministry statement.
The deal was signed by representatives from both sides in Prague.
The systems are made by Israel Aerospace Industries’ Elta Systems.
They are used to detect incoming rockets and where they will land, helping with interception, as well as finding the firing location.
“By signing the agreement, we start the process of ending our dependence on obsolete Russian machinery and at the same time acquire modern and battle-tested systems from a long-term strategic partner,” said Czech Defence Minister Lubomir Metnar in the Israeli statement.
