The 16th edition of the International Junior Science Olympiad will kick off on Wednesday (today) under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani.
The Olympiad will be held under the theme ‘Motivating Today’s Young Generation for the Skills of Tomorrow’.
Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed al Hammadi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education HE Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al Nuaimi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs and Chairman of the Scientific Committee for the International Junior Science Olympiad 2019 HE Dr Khaled al Ali and President of the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) Prof Paresh Joshi are expected to give speeches during the opening ceremony.
The winners of the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) Institute Competition will also be honoured at the opening ceremony.
More than 70 countries are taking part in the global scientific event, the largest number in the history of the Olympiad, which will also see the participation of a large number of students and organisations from Qatar and abroad.
The International Junior Science is an international science competition for students aged 15 years and under, which was launched in 2004. It is held in December every year. Qatar has participated as an observer since 2016. In 2017 and 2018, Qatar won bronze medals.
