US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has thanked Qatar for its partnership and cooperation with Washington in a variety of issues.
In a statement following his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani, the US Secretary of State said they discussed the importance of a unified Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to address regional instability and other bilateral and regional issues, including recent developments in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.
The FM met his US counterpart on Tuesday night in Washington. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, the ways of enhancing them, especially in the fields of defence, regional security and the fight against terrorism.
The discussion also touched upon the situation in Syria, Iraq and Libya.
“Great to see Secretery Mike Pompeo today in #Washington for talks on strategic Qatar-USA ties, regional issues & shared challenges,” the FM said in a tweet.
