Ooredoo held a special honouring ceremony to recognise the incredible performance of Qatar’s Paralympian athletes at the recent 2019 West Asia Para Games held in Amman, Jordan.
In attendance at the honouring were Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud al Thani, Chairman of Ooredoo Group; Sheikh Saud bin Nasser al Thani, Ooredoo Group Chief Executive Officer; Waleed Mohamed al Sayed, CEO of Ooredoo Qatar; and other high ranking officials in the company.
More than 600 athletes took part in the 2019 West Asia Para Games from
12 countries.
Among those honoured included the Goalball team – Mohammad Hammam, Waleed Kawhaji, Mohammad Kahloot, Abdulhadi al Marri, Ikrami Ahmad and Abbad Shamli – who came home with the gold medal, as well as team manager Khalid al Shuaibi, team coach Abdulqader Khudeim and team assistant coach Abdulkareem Mohammad.
Also hounoured was Sarah Masud Hamdi, who won gold in shot put, and Abdulrahman Abdulqader who won silver in shot put.
The Goalball tournament was one of the highlights of the event, with six teams – Qatar, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman and the UAE – competing for gold.
The special honouring ceremony was held at Ooredoo Tower, West Bay, with senior representatives of Ooredoo accompanying Sheikh Abdulla. The athletes were given special gifts to commemorate their success at the Games, and Sheikh Saud congratulated each athlete on his or her performance.
Speaking of the ceremony, Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud al Thani, Chairman of Ooredoo Group, said: “We were delighted to host our distinguished Qatari Paralympian athletes at Ooredoo Tower after their stellar performance at the 2019 West Asia Para Games.
“We are incredibly proud of their achievements, which put Qatar firmly on the sporting map yet again, and we look forward to many more such successes in the future.”
