Cyprus and Qatar continue to enjoy excellent bilateral relations in all fields, Cypriot Ambassador to the State of Qatar HE Dr. Michalis A. Zacharioglou has said.
The Cypriot ambassador was addressing the gathering at a gala dinner hosted by him to celebrate the 59th anniversary of the independence of Cyprus. Those present on the occasion included Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari; Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs HE Yousouf Al Othman Fakhroo; HE Ambassador Ibrahim Fakhroo, Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Ahmed, Dean of Diplomatic Corp; diplomats; guests; members of the media; and members of the Cypriot community.
“Relations between the two countries have got a big boost in recent years with the exchange of visits on political level and the signing of a number of bilateral agreements that cover the whole spectrum of our relations,” said Dr. Zacharioglou.
“Besides the impressive relations, there is always margin for further improvement. The Cyprus embassy in Qatar is working energetically and vigorously towards strengthening the relations in the fields of investments, trade, tourism and energy with the encouragement and positive input of our Qatari partners,” he added.
The Cypriot envoy noted that Cyprus and Qatar enjoy direct air link since 2014. “Qatar Airways has two flights every day between Doha and Larnaca, back and forth, which boosts existing tourism and business exchanges between our two friendly countries.” 
The Cypriot ambassador thanked the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the government of the State of Qatar for their ongoing cooperation and support to Cyprus. “The government and the people of Cyprus follow with admiration the impressive development and achievements of Qatar within the framework of its National Vision 2030, and its preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2022, under the inspired leadership of His Highness the Amir,” he said.
Greeting the members of the Cyprus community on the occasion, he said Cypriots are working hard in various professional fields and prospering in “this country of opportunities”.
“The efforts of the Cypriots are greatly appreciated as they
are making a valuable contribution to bringing both friendly countries closer.”
The envoy especially thanked the sponsors of the night including Conspel, More Marine, Mastro-Qatar, Poullaides Construction, EMS, LUCE-Ataliotis, Hiscore Trading and Contracting, Drywell, Cyteco, Makkas, Vassilikon and Hotel Intercontinental for their support in arrangements of the celebrations of the 59th anniversary of the independence of Cyprus. 
The guests enjoyed delicious Greek cuisines along with wonderful performance and melodious songs by artists Stavros and Demetra.
