Qatari Farm Products Festival, which aims to support the owners of national farms by introducing their products in major shopping malls to expand the venues selling local products, kicked off at Lulu Mall in Al Gharafa on Monday.
Inaugurating the festival, Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser al Thani, Assistant Under-Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, said the festival is part of efforts to support local producers and local farm owners to market their products in Qatar’s markets. He said the number of farms participating in the programme has now reached 120.
He said a crop company will soon be involved to facilitate the marketing process of farm owners.
Yousuf Khalid al Khulaifi, Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department, said the festival aims to support local products, raise the self-sufficiency ratio of various local products, market Qatari farm products in major malls, as well as supporting and encouraging other farms to produce and display their products on the market.
