The women’s Skeet Junior event team of Qatar claimed a bronze medal at the ongoing 14th Asian Shooting Championship at Losail on Monday.
Qatar shooters Fatima Saeed al Muraikhi, Ghalia Ali al Malki and Amna al Shirawi combined effectively to score 250. While Fatima shot a total score of 97 (19, 21, 18, 18, 21), Ghali scored 80 (18, 14, 17, 14, 17) and Amna tallied 73 (16, 11, 17, 14, 15) for the collective effort.
China (Zhengyi Song, Yikai Lu, Yashu Sun) took the gold with a score of 339, and India (Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Areeba Khan, Karttiki Singh Shaktawat) the silver tallying 309.
Qatar’s junior skeet women’s bronze adds to the men’s team gold in skeet on Sunday.
Earlier in the championship, Mohamed al Rumaihi had claimed Olympic quota place in the men’s trap event.
Creating a new World and Asian record at the ‘Final Hall’ of Losail Shooting Complex was North Korea’s Kim Song Guk who shot 246.5 in the men’s 10m Air Pistol Final.
India collected silver as 17-year-old Saurabh Chaudhary scored 244.5 and bronze went to Javad Foroughi of Iran on 221.8.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic quotas from the event were secured by North Korea, Iran and Pakistan as India and China had already reached their maximum allocation of two each.
Pakistan shooter Gulfam Joseph finished 7th with a score of 137.9.
Joseph became the third Pakistani after Khalil Akhtar and Ghulam Mustafa Basheer to qualify for 2020 Olympics.
In the junior mixed air rifle event, India’s Shreya Agrawal and Dhanush Srikanth won the gold while China and China A teams took silver and bronze respectively.
In junior men’s skeet, India’s Gurnihal Singh Garcha won the silver, and the team gold with Abhay Singh Sekhon and Ayush Rudraraju.
India’s Areeba Khan, Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Karttiki Shaktawat won the team silver behind China in junior
women’s skeet.
