US president Donald Trump has called on Iran to return missing FBI agent Robert Levinson.
“If Iran is able to turn over to the US kidnapped former FBI Agent Robert A Levinson, who has been missing in Iran for 12 years, it would be a very positive step”, the president tweeted.
The tweet came after Iran acknowledged it had an open case on the agent who went missing in March 2007, according to US media reports. There were no further details to Iran’s weekend announcement.
In his tweet, the US president has also issued a warning to Iran over its uranium enrichment activities.
“At the same time, upon information & belief, Iran is, & has been, enriching uranium. THAT WOULD BE A VERY BAD STEP,” Trump tweeted.
Tensions between the two countries escalated since Trump tore up a deal limiting Iran’s nuclear activities.
