TO mark the National Breast Cancer Awareness month, McDonald’s Qatar, the leading food service company also recognised for its community service activities, held a breast cancer awareness session at its Al Sadd branch on Friday.
October is observed globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and aims to spread awareness of the disease to help beat one of the most common cancers in women.
With the attendance of McDonald’s management, cancer activists, media and medical professionals, the event encouraged women to consider doing a breast self-exam regularlyfor early detection of the disease.
The event was also attended by cancer survivors, who shared their stories of bravery exhibiting their rare inner strength and positivity in the face of a life-threatening ailment with the audience to inspire them.
During the session, Dr. AnnalynTungcul Santos, general physician, emphasisedthat cancer prevention is possible through early detection and treatment as well as palliative care to mitigate the suffering of patients and their families.
Ghada Kamal, marketing manager of McDonald’s Qatar said, “McDonald’s Qatar is delighted to take part in this nationwide commitment to help to educate women and their families on the importance of early detection to beat breast cancer. This event is a unique opportunity to underline an important issue that everyone should be concerned about. The awareness campaign is part of our DNA as a company that advocates and supports vital issues affecting women.”
Margarita Zuniga, behavioural change campaign activist and one of the speakers, said, “My message to all is that you matter and the people you love matter. I encourage women and men to take control of their health. Get to know your body to notice any changes. Make healthy lifestyle choices by exercising weekly and eating nutritious foods. Most importantly, take the step to get screened and checked at your local primary health clinic.”
