Chairman and Managing Director of QIIB Sheikh Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah al Thani has been bestowed ‘Islamic Finance Personality of the Year 2019’ award by the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA) Committee, the bank announced in a statement on Wednesday.
The award was in recognition of Sheikh Khalid’s impressive leadership at the helm of one of the largest and the best Islamic banks and because of his high stature and the great efforts he has made to enhance Islamic finance at the regional and international levels, the statement added.
GIFA awards are considered to be eminent at the global stage. Previously, such awards were given to presidents, prime ministers, and other leaders and global Islamic finance personalities in different categories.
The honouring ceremony was held in Cape Town, South Africa.
