KENYA’S former vice president and Athletics Kenya president, who are in Qatar for the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, have praised Qatar’s world-class facilities and the hospitality of its people.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, the former vice-president Moody Awori, who is a member of Sports, Art and Social Development Fund Board, said, “We highly appreciate Qataris’ hospitality. They are friends of Kenya. We are happy that they have made available their facilities to us including the Athletes’ Village.”
The former vice president of Kenya said this was his first visit to Qatar and he was impressed with Qatar’s infrastructure including roads, airport and stadiums among others.
“The infrastructure is world class,” he remarked.
He also praised the Kenyan ambassador to Qatar and his deputy for their hospitality.
President of Athletics Kenya Jackson Kiprono Tuwei said it was an opportunity for Kenyan officials to learn from Qatar in terms of infrastructure and sporting facilities and explore possibilities of cooperation with Qatar.
Tuwei said, “Qatar has gone a notch higher in terms of standards. This can help us evaluate our own facilities and improve them back home. We can have really good facilities. Every athlete requires good facilities.”
Talking about the hospitality of the Qatari people, he said, “I would like to thank the Qatari people for their hospitality. It is not easy to host a world championship, but they are doing it in a wonderful way. I believe they have put in a lot of work to make sure we are all comfortable.”
Tuwei expressed the hope that the Kenyan athletes would perform well in their respective events.
Meanwhile, speaking about Kenyan athletes, former vice president Moody Awori said, “We don’t take our athletes for granted. They are really our best ambassadors and we know they always win honestly. We encourage them to continue practising. They have good, committed coaches.”
He added that sports fund is available to support
athletes.
