Ways to enhance the $50 billion bilateral trade between Qatar and China and the participation of Qatari firms in the upcoming China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) dominated the talks between Qatar Chamber officials and a Chinese trade delegation held recently in Doha.
Qatar Chamber First Vice Chairman Mohamed bin Twar and Second Vice Chairman Rashid bin Hamad al Athba represented the Qatari side, while the Chinese delegation were headed by Vice President and Secretary General of China Foreign Trade Centre (CFTC) and Canton Fair Li Jinqi.
The meeting reviewed ways of strengthening cooperation between the two sides. It also examined the preparations towards the Canton Fair, which is being organised by the Chinese Ministry of Trade and Public Government of Guangdong district. The fair is slated for mid October.
Jinqi said he expected to see a number of Qatari companies at the 126th edition of the expo, which is the largest international trade event. It would contribute to enhancing trade between China and world countries, he added.
The fair is the largest platform for Chinese companies aiming at expanding their global presence and implementing Chinese foreign trade development strategy.
Underscoring the importance of Qatari market, Jinqi called on Qatari companies and businesspersons to visit the expo.
Describing China as an important trading partner for Qatar and Canton Fair as a significant platform for Qatari businessmen, Twar said Qatari companies were eager to forge trade alliances with Chinese companies. The QC first VC stressed the Chamber’s interest to encourage Qatari companies to take part in the fair, which he said would open new areas of cooperation between the two countries.
