MADA Center has wrapped up its participation in World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) planning and consulting committee meetings and has got its coveted membership.
W3C specialises in programmes and websites and is responsible for setting up guidelines, standards and regulations for designing websites.
MADA Centre has got W3C membership for being the only Middle Eastern organisation to adopt assistive technology solutions to help persons with special needs.
MADA Center, a centre of excellence in digital access in Arabic, which makes continuous efforts to understand and meet the needs of people with functional limitations professionally, was represented by its digital access team at the event.
In a statement, Ms Maha al Mansouri, CEO of Mada Center, expressed pride over the centre’s accomplishment as it is the only Arab institution to have achieved full membership of the association as a result of its tireless efforts to make browsing the web and digital content of digital platforms an ideal experience for people with functional limitations in Qatar and the Arab world.
She added, “Our presence in this association is a confirmation of the role of Mada Center as a pioneer in supporting digital and communication accessibility and adapt it to the requirements of people with functional limitations and disabilities.”
At the national level, Mada Center has achieved a digital accessibility rate of 94 percent amongst government websites, while Qatar ranks fifth globally on the Digital Accessibility Rights Evaluation Index (DARE).
Mada Center is a private institution for public benefit, which was founded in 2010 as an initiative that aims at promoting digital inclusion and building a technology-based community that meets the needs of persons with functional limitations (PFLs), persons with disabilities (PWDs) and the elderly in Qatar.
