Following its mandate to advance the rule of law through international engagement, a delegation from the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre (QICDRC) is participating in the International Bar Association (IBA 2019) Annual Conference starting on Sunday.
The conference will go on until September 27 at the COEX Convention and Exhibition Centre in Seoul, South Korea.
For the third consecutive year, QICDRC returns to the IBA stage as a “Gold” sponsor. Its growing outreach initiatives have helped strengthen the international legal community and contribute to economic growth in Qatar and beyond.
With more than 5,000 attendees from across the global legal network in attendance, the IBA Annual conference continually attracts a wide range of judicial experts at a unique networking platform. As a result, QICDRC’s participation reconfirms its position as an international leader in the resolution of civil and commercial disputes.
Noting the conference’s far-reaching scope, Faisal al Sahouti, CEO of QICDRC, said, “We look forward to engaging with global thought-leaders in the judicial field and exchange valuable insights on current legal trends, opportunities and challenges. At QICDRC, we recognise that an integrated legal community, anchored in common standards of dispute resolution in line with the rule of law, is essential to economic growth and prosperity.
“Qatar’s geographical location also allows QICDRC to serve as a strategic link between East and West – a bond that we hope to advance in one of Asia’s most forward-thinking commercial hubs,” he concluded.
Under the IBA 2019 scope, QICDRC will host a seminar on ‘The Rise of the Commercial Courts in Asia and the Middle East’, featuring a welcome note from the CEO and high-level panel discussions.
This year’s conference will emphasise the importance of technology within modern access to justice. This falls in line with QICDRC’s rapid digitalisation efforts. Notably, the Court rolled out its innovative online case management system, eCourt, last year, allowing for improved access and transparency of litigation services.
QICDRC serves as a global model for excellence in litigation and alternative dispute resolution. Its facilities boast advanced courtroom technologies and a high-profile cadre of 16 international judges, who promulgate the rule of law according to the best international legal practices. The Court thereby helps attract direct foreign investment to Qatar and positions the country as a trustworthy destination for international commerce.
Additionally, Qatar is accelerating reforms as part of its strategic directive towards achieving efficient judiciary in line with the State’s economic diversification efforts. QICDRC’s active engagement with the international legal community positions Qatar as a unique financial hub, supported by a well-established civil and commercial dispute resolution framework.
