Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has concluded its activities to mark the World First Aid Day 2019, by holding over a week a series of health education activities for the benefit of more than 53,000 people.
Health educators at QRCS’s Medical Affairs Division delivered first-aid training workshops at five educational institutions including at Rawdat Rashid Secondary School for Boys, Oscar International Academy, Eadad International Academy, Inspire Special Needs Therapy Center, and Khalid bin Ahmed Preparatory School for Boys.
At the QRCS-managed Workers’ Health Centers, which are supervised by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), public events and competitions were held for the visitors of four health facilities in Zekreet, Al Hemailah, Mesaimeer, and Fareej Abdulaziz.
The workshops were attended by more than 3,000 students, workers, persons with special needs, and community members, both male and female.
Multiple health education messages were posted on QRCS’s website and social media channels, which reached around 50,000 visitors with informative and audiovisual materials.
Muhsen A. al Malik, Director of Communication and Public Relations at QRCS, said, “Every year, QRCS marks this important global occasion, through its Training, Research, and Development Center (TRDC). A select group of medical trainers and instructors present training courses accredited by the MOPH Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP), the American Heart Association (AHA), and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
These courses cover first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillator (AED), AHA Heartsaver, and oxygen administration.
For medical professionals, QRCS offers specialist courses on Infection Prevention & Control Core Competency Education (IPCCE), Direct Observation Skills Assessment in Wound Care Dressing, Nursing Leadership, Understanding Patient Safety Domains, Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
A wide range of health-related topics are presented to the public, such as basic community first aid, first aid for home safety, first aid for road traffic safety, first aid for sports injuries, importance of drinking & eating for prevention of kidney diseases, personal hygiene (body – hair – hands), oral health (tooth brushing – cavity prevention), healthy diet, daily breakfast (energy, activity & productivity), sports for life, prevention of tablet risks, smoking (risks – quitting), prevention of communicable diseases (HIV/AIDS – hepatitis C), diabetes between prevention & treatment, asthma (prevention – treatment – first aid for attacks), obesity: A modern-day plague (risks – prevention), healthy &safe adolescence, flu (protect yourself and others), importance of balanced blood pressure, prevention of occupational diseases (students – workers – employees), and blood donation saves lives.
