Sohni Dharti Forum organised a colourful function to mark Pakistan Independence and Defence Day at Al Khor.
More than 120 children of different age groups took part in a range of activities while more than 380 community members witnessed the celebrations.
A group of 10 children including Faizan Ashraf, Ayesha Gulzar, Uswa Afzaal, Fatima Ahmed, Rao Abdul Mannan, Hassan Abdullah, Basit Iqbal, Fatima Bilal, Hadia Taimoor and Muhammad Ahmed Bhatti compered the event.
Finance Secretary Umer Khayam welcomed the guests. The event commenced with the recitation of Holy Quran by Qari Khalil-ur-Rehman. The national anthems of Qatar and Pakistan were played on the occasion.
Afifa Abid delivered a speech titled ‘Pakistan Aik Naimat Hai’ (Pakistan is a blessing).
Three teams comprising Fatima Ahmed, Arfaa Zahoor, Ayesha Kamran, Fatima Bilal, Muhammad Ahmed Bhatti and Uswa Afzaal took part in an exciting quiz competition on Pakistan history.
Sohni Dharti Coordinator Humaira Masood conducted the quiz.
Children staged three colourful performances, which were prepared by Sobia Arif Rao in coordination with executive committee members.
Muhammad Aasim played Pakistan’s national anthem on piano, much to the excitement of the guests.
Amjad Saleem and Mohsin Ali carried out live media coverage of the event on YouTube and Facebook.
A short stage play titled ‘Watan Ki Talash’ (Search of the country) was also performed by a group of parents and children. The play was written and directed by Future Leaders Programme leader Shabbir Siddiqui. The actors included Siddiqui, Khawar Aman, Aftab Ahmed, Shahzad Rasool and Ayesha Gulzar.
Community Welfare Attaché at the Pakistan embassy Hafiz Junaid Amir Sial, who was the chief guest on the occasion, delivered the key note address. He paid rich tributes to the heroes of Pakistan Independence Movement.
Prominent among those who attended the event were Liaqat Amin Satti, Asfandiar Ansari, Chaudhary Mohammad Ajmal, Riyaz Ahmad Bakali, Aamir Saeed Khan, Ashraf Siddiqui, Liaqat Nawaz and Adeel Akbar.
Chairman of Sohni Dharti Saleem Baloch proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated the efforts of executive committee members in making the event a grand success. He said the event was considered as a general body meeting as all the members were present at the venue with their families. He briefed the members about the proposed changes in the forum’s constitution and sought their approval. He said the constitution has been amended after 13 years.
