Ta’allum Academies recently celebrated confirmation of their successful international WASC accreditation status. This rigorous international benchmark signifies excellence in the quality of education provided by Ta’allum. Al Maha Academy for Boys, Al Maha Academy for Girls and Al Jazeera Academy are the first non-American schools in Qatar to be granted this prestigious award from the Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Commission. The WASC logo is now proudly displayed by the Academies indicating that they have met the WASC criteria.
The accreditation status arose after three years of sustained preparation. Each academy developed a detailed self-study report and was then assessed during a week-long on-site accreditation visit by a WASC team of eight specialist international educators. In their final reports, the visit teams praised the academies for their “culture of mutual respect” and also for “the high level of care and concern” for students. They also cited the “strong Islamic values” which permeate the academies and the “great progress of the past three to five years in improving levels of behaviour, attendance and academic achievement”.
As part of maintaining their status, the academies must prepare an annual progress report to monitor that the schools continue to make progress in the implementation and improved student achievement relative to the school wide learner outcomes and the academic standards. Ta’allum Academies are now integral partners for WASC. This includes a requirement that as an accredited school they will annually contribute staff members to participate on visiting teams in other international schools.
Principal of Al Jazeera Academy Sheldon Smith said, “Our academy has grown in confidence and strength through the WASC process. Staff at every level has contributed to this success. This is the essence of the WASC process.”
Principal of Al Maha Academy for Boys Shuja Uddin expressed his gratitude to all associated with the academy, saying, “It has been a challenging journey but the hard work throughout the Academy community has been rewarded.” Principal of Al Maha Academy for Girls Jeanette Azouz also paid tribute to the efforts of staff, students and parents saying, “the accreditation recognises the commitment, spirit and teamwork of all our stakeholders.”
Ta’allum’s Director of Education Dr Mohammed Saefan said, “Ta’allum’s goals and our pursuit of excellence in Early Years, Primary and Secondary education fully accord with the WASC processes. I heartily congratulate our Academies. Through hard work and high standards we are committed to continuous improvement.”
His positive thoughts were echoed by Ta’allum CEO Ahmed al Mannai, who said, “This is a wonderful achievement. I sincerely thank all members of the Ta’allum community of staff, parents, students and all partners for their commitment and enterprise. The accreditation is confirmation of the high quality of education we offer and a springboard to the next level of success and expectation. Together we make the difference.”
