The total sales of Qatari local vegetables from the Qatari distinctive producer and farms programmes during August reached 183 tonnes at major commercial complexes and other markets in the country.
In a statement, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) said such programmes aim to improve the local marketing of Qatari vegetables, increase demand and minimise production losses, as well as increase Qatari farm income.
The programmes are helping increase investment in agriculture and the availability of local vegetable varieties in consumer complexes throughout the year.
The local products marketing programmes are supervised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI).
The initiative was launched in order to provide Qatari farmers with the opportunity to sell high quality Qatari vegetables at affordable prices to consumers without an intermediary, and without paying any commissions.
Through these marketing programmes, local vegetable products have proved to be competitive with the imported product in the Qatari market.
