Qatar expresses concern over serious
human rights violations in Yemen
QATAR has expressed concern over the serious human rights violations in Yemen, the crimes committed against the Yemeni people by all parties involved in the conflict, as well as the failure of the warring parties to abide by international humanitarian law, causing thousands of deaths, including those of children and women. This came in a speech by the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN and other international organisations Ambassador HE Ali Khalfanal Mansouri during an interactive dialogue on the report of the High Commissioner on the situation of human rights in Yemen, at the 42nd session of the Human Rights Council in its second item.
Mansouri welcomed the report by Group of Eminent International and Regional Experts on Yemen, calling for lifting of all imposed difficulties and restrictions of access to Yemen to enable them to best fulfill their mandate. He said the situation in Yemen has become aimless and all military operations undergoing in the country have deteriorated dramatically and increased instability in the country and the region. The report says that about 80 percent of the Yemeni people -- more than 24 million people -- need humanitarian assistance to survive, he noted.
Mansouri called on all parties to stop these futile wars as the price is being paid by Yemeni people.
