THE Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Sunday organised a crisis and disaster management training course in cooperation with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The training course will last for five days with the participation of 43 officers from various departments.
The training course, which comes in preparation for the 2022 World Cup, aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills associated with dealing with major security crises and emergencies, prioritising potential risks, setting up scenarios, and identifying appropriate actions to address them.
Director of Planning and Quality Department at the Ministry of Interior Brigadier Abdul Rahman Majid al Sulaiti pointed to the importance of the course, in which the officers in charge of field missions are actively involved in implementing the security plans for the 2022 World Cup. He said the course is important because of the major sporting event hosted by the State of Qatar in 2022, and the significant role of the Ministry of Interior in the face of any potential dangers.
Sulaiti stressed that the Ministry of Interior is fully prepared and ready to face the potential threats and risks that could arise during this tournament based on its mission to achieve security and stability, noting that the main purpose of the strategy of the MoI (2018-2022) is to contribute to secure the hosting of the 2022 World Cup.
He explained that the plan to secure the World Cup 2022 includes linking all stakeholders in the country with the involvement of the private sector, in order to achieve security and protection from potential risks and various threats, using all means and methods of work to ensure that the threats do not reach the sites and affect the facilities of the event or its audience.
He pointed out that this course, which is provided by the response team of serious incidents in the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, comes within the qualification and training programme included in the plan of the Police Training Institute to prepare for the World Cup 2022.
For his part, Colonel Abdulaziz Ali al Sulaiti from the Risk Management Unit in the Security Committee of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) said that this session aims at improving performance and developing skills of participants to benefit the homeland security and to organise the World Cup 2022 in a safe way.
The course programme includes many theoretical lectures and practical exercises on crisis management, planning special events, ways to develop a crisis response plan, and evaluation of information in the command centre, as well as other subjects related to security.
