Liverpool matched a club record with their 11th consecutive Premier League victory on Saturday, as promoted Norwich City picked up their first win.
Goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino helped Liverpool win 2-1 at Southampton.
“I’m really proud of what the boys did this afternoon,” manager Juergen Klopp said after his side equalled the club mark set in 2014.
“We deserved the three points, we scored wonderful goals at the right moment.” Mane and Firmino had the Reds in control before backup goalkeeper Adrian handed Southampton a lifeline.
The hero of Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup shoot-out win over Chelsea, Adrian’s attempted clearance hit Danny Ings and rebounded into the net with seven minutes left.  Ings then had another late chance but side footed wide when all alone at the back post.
Norwich needed just two games of their Premier League return to taste victory as Teemu Pukki’s hat-trick lifted them past Newcastle United 3-1.
Pukki put the Canaries 3-0 up at Carrow Road before Jonjo Shelvy’s late consolation for winless Newcastle.  “Three points was what we wanted today,” Pukki said. “The first hat-trick in England so I’m really happy.
“Good, good victory especially after the display last week (a 4-1 loss at Liverpool).”
Arsenal have two wins from two for the first time since 2009 after beating Burnley 2-1.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a 64th-minute winner after team-mate Alexandre Lacazette and Ashley Barnes traded first-half goals at the Emirates Stadium.
“It’s good to start with two wins,” Aubameyang told BT Sport after Arsenal’s 10th straight win over Burnley.
“We feel confident, we feel good and it was important since we played at home.” Early goals from Joshua King and Harry Wilson helped Bournemouth to their first win, 2-1 at Aston Villa.
King, with a penalty, and Wilson scored in the opening 12 minutes before Douglas Luiz pulled one back for promoted Villa.  “We made two big mistakes, they had two goals in 10 minutes and it’s difficult to come back from that in this league,” Villa manager Dean Smith told the BBC after his side’s second defeat.
“I’m not disappointed in the way we played, I’m just disappointed in the results.” Bernard scored the only goal as Everton beat Watford for their first win and Leandro Trossard’s goal earned Brighton a 1-1 home draw with West Ham, who had led through Javier Hernandez.EPL Results
