THE Embassy of Bangladesh in Doha observed the 44th anniversary of the martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day with due solemnity on Thursday.
The national flag of Bangladesh was hoisted at half-mast to commemorate the martyrdom of Bangabandhu and his family members.
Recitation of the Holy Quran (Khatme Quran) was done since early morning seeking the salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members, who were brutally killed on August 15, 1975. Besides, floral wreath was laid at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of the embassy, Bangladesh School and different community organisations in Qatar, to pay tributes to the Father of the Nation for his great contribution to the independence of Bangladesh.
Subsequently, messages delivered by the president, prime minister, foreign minister and state minister on the occasion were read out before the audience.
In his speech on the occasion, the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar HE Ashud Ahmed paid glowing tributes to Bangabandhu whose heroic leadership led the Bengali nation to their long cherished dream of independence.
The ambassador applauded the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, for her role in uplifting Bangladesh to become the role model of development in the comity of nations.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to render maximum services to the people in line with the government’s seamless efforts to turn Bangladesh into a ‘Golden Bengal’. In the same vein, he called upon all members of Bangladesh community in Qatar to abide by the law and uphold the image of Bangladesh in Qatar.
Meanwhile, a documentary titled ‘Our Bangabandhu’ was played to highlight the life and activities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. A milad and special prayer was also held to seek eternal salvation for all martyrs and peace and prosperity for Bangladesh.
A large number of people representing different professions and community organisations in Qatar participated in the observance of the National Mourning Day.
