The Global Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) celebrated the organisation's 75th anniversary with the theme 'Celebrating our past, inspiring the future' in New York.
The IIA also displayed a commemoration of its 75th anniversary museum exhibit, part of the Museum of Internal Audit, newly housed at the IIA's Lake Mary, Florida.
An anniversary website (75years.theiia.org) was created to provide a comprehensive overview of internal audit's prominent figures and defining moments.
Over more than seven momentous decades, the IIA became the largest global membership association for the internal audit profession and now boasts more than 185,000 members from 170 countries.
Hassan al Mulla, Sundaresan Rajeswar and Christian Adonis, board members of the IIA Qatar, attended the IIA's 75th anniversary, Global council and international conference. In the annual business meeting Rajeswar was inducted into the Global Committee of Research and Education Advisors (CREA) for the term 2016-19.
Global Councils are held to strengthen the IIA's global network by promoting the exchange of ideas and experiences among leaders from around the world and to collect insights and feedback on key strategies and initiatives that impact the future of the profession.
"The discussion, feedback and knowledge exchange sessions were both informative and interactive with chance to contribute regional input that facilitated exchange of ideas and practices among participants," said Rajeswar, who is regular at the IIA's thought leadership over a decade.
Angela Witzany from Austria was elected as chairman of the IIA's 2016-2017 global board of directors.
Witzany, head of internal audit at Sparkassen Versicherung AG, has chosen"audit never sleeps" as her chairman's theme to express the constant vigilance practitioners must embrace to identify and respond to risks that can threaten their organisations.
"Internal auditors have sought to add value to their organisations by working tirelessly and passionately to meet the evolving expectations of stakeholders and to become trusted advisers and partners to boards, audit committees, and management," Witzany said in her message.
