Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday invited businessmen and investors from the United States (US) to benefit from the economic and business opportunities in Pakistan, reported Radio Pakistan.
On his three-day visit to the US, the premier had a meeting with a delegation of investors, led by Javed Anwar – an effective member of the Democratic Party who played an active role in the formation of the Pakistan Congress Foundation caucus – in Washington DC.
During the moot, PM Imran informed the businessmen about the benefit of investing in Pakistan because of the country’s strategic location and its connectivity to the broader region. The investors identified their areas of interest including the energy and tourism sector and appreciated the improved security in the region.
Texas-based leading Pakistani businessmen and high ranking influential member of the Democratic Party Tahir Javed invited the prime minister to the Pakistan Embassy in Washington to discuss more business opportunities.
The prime minister is visiting the US on the invitation of President Donald Trump and discussions are expected to be held on a raft of regional and global issues.
Earlier this year, Trump, who has been highly critical of Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan and overall war on terror, suspended the security and other assistance to Pakistan.
He and PM Imran also had a war of words on Twitter after the US president reiterated his allegations against Pakistan for “playing a double game”. Pakistani officials, however, feel that direct interaction between PM Imran and Trump can help address some of the misgivings.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa will visit the Pentagon to meet the senior leadership of the United States military, DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor said on Sunday.
Addressing the media at the Pakistani embassy in Washington, the army spokesperson said the COAS will also accompany Prime Minister Imran Khan during his meeting with US President Donald Trump, Radio Pakistan reported. Speaking about Pakistan’s internal security situation, the DG ISPR said it was far better now as the “sacrifices of the nation and security forces have started yielding results”. Briefing journalists on the situation on Pakistan’s borders, Maj-Gen Ghafoor said border control measures were much more effective after the fencing of the Pak-Afghan border. He expressed confidence that the border fence would help reduce terrorism and violence.
“The main focus of Pakistan’s security forces now is development in Balochistan and restructuring of terrorism-affected areas in coordination with civil administration,” he said.
The DG ISPR also briefed the media regarding escalation in tensions with India in February this year and the overall security situation of the country.
He lauded the role of media in highlighting the positive image of the country abroad.
