THE Cabinet, at its weekly meeting chaired by Prime Minister HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa alThani at Amiri Diwan on Wednesday, approved a draft decision by the Minister of Culture and Sports to issue a system for honouring Qatari sports clubs with distinguished achievements in athletics.
The aim of this system is to motivate these clubs to constantly strive for excellence within the set standards by recognising them and offering them financial support and an appropriate environment.
The Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Dr Issa bin Saad al Jafali al Nuaimi read out the agenda and decisions of the meeting.
At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet hailed the results of HH the Amir’s Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad alThani’s visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The Cabinet affirmed that HH’s fruitful discussions with the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan and the brotherly atmosphere that characterised the visit as well as the memorandums of understanding which were signed constituted a new platform for a strategic cooperation and for the promotion of friendship and mutual trust and understanding for the benefit of the two brotherly countries and peoples and for peace and stability in the region.
The Cabinet also took the necessary measures to issue a number of draft laws after reviewing the recommendations of the Shura Council on them. These include draft laws on fireworks and military medals and decorations; laws amending some provisions of Law No 4 for 2008 regarding property leasing and Decree Law No. 10 for 1974 on the establishment of Qatar Petroleum; as well as draft law amending provisions of Law No 15 of 2010 on the prohibition of workers camps within family residential areas.
The Cabinet also approved the entry into force of the provisions of Law No.24 for 2002 regarding retirement and pensions of Qatari employees in a number of companies.
The Cabinet then took the necessary measures to ratify a protocol of cooperation in the field of education and training between the governments of Qatar and Turkey.
It also approved a draft agreement in air services between the Qatar and the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
Finally, the Cabinet reviewed the letter of the Chairman of the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority on the comments and views of some bodies on the amendments proposed by the Authority to the Penal Code promulgated by Law No 11 of 2004 and the Criminal Procedure Code promulgated by Law No 23 of 2004.
