30% rise in demand for travel packages this summer Jun 27, 2019 0 922 12345 Hisham AljundiDohaWith the onset of the summer holiday season, travel agencies in Qatar have seen an almost 30 percent rise in demand for bookings compared to the same period last year. Travel agencies say new destinations and diversity in travel routes have contributed to the rise in demand for holiday bookings this summer.Taha Abdellatif, manager of a renowned travel agency in Doha, said the introduction of more travel routes and new destinations by Qatar Airways has led to a spike in demand.“Families now prefer new destinations such as the Maldives and southeast Asia to spend their holidays. Turkey remains one of the most preferred destinations for people in Qatar to spend their holidays,” Abdellatif said. For some, the Scandinavian countries are a hotspot thanks to their cool climate during the summer and the availability of flights to these areas, Taha said. “The reason behind the increase in travel is a drop in air fares for some of these holiday destinations. This has motivated some to spend their entire holiday abroad in one of these countries, which is all inclusive in the travel package,” he said.Echoing a similar view, Sayyed from Al Darwish Travels said that summer holiday bookings to destinations in Europe such as Germany, England and Switzerland are still high in demand. Maldives is emerging as a top destination with three direct flights daily from Doha. “Weekends often find fully booked flights to Oman and Kuwait, which have become preferred destinations for short breaks,” he said, adding that tourists are also opting for Azerbaijan with two daily direct flights available and travel agencies organising full-package trips.According to customers, Tbilisi in Georgia is a favourite destination due to its non-visa entry policy and the beautiful landscapes that dot the length and breadth of the country. Travel agencies said some people are also looking for medical tourism and their favoured destinations are India, Thailand, Jordan and the UK.
