Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed al Hammadi met on Tuesday with the President of the International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) Prof Paresh Joshi and his accompanying delegation currently visiting the country.
The meeting reviewed the ministry’s preparations to host the 16th International Junior Science Olympiad, which will be held in Qatar in December.
In statements following the meeting, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs Fawzia Abdulaziz al Khater said the final report issued by the IJSO team headed by Prof Paresh Joshi, was reassuring and emphasised the readiness and good preparations for Qatar’s hosting of this important scientific event. The tournament, the first in the Arab world, is distinguished by all standards in many ways, including the development of systems of testing, correction, voting, and other logistical matters.
Meanwhile, Prof Joshi said in a press statement that the delegation held many meetings with the organising committee of the IJSO Qatar 2019, noting remarkable progress in the preparations for the event.
For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs Dr Khalid al Ali, who is chairman of the scientific committee of the International Junior Science Olympiad, said that many meetings were held between the scientific and organising committees of Qatar Olympiad and representatives of the organisation to discuss the preparations for the tournament while field visits were conducted to the facilities where the contests will take place.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the organising committee of IJSO Qatar Ali al Buainain said that 50 percent of the work of the competent committees has already been completed confirming Qatar’s readiness to organise the tournament.
Qatar will host the 16th International Junior Science Olympiad from December 3 to 12. Qatar is the first Arab country to host the event in which a total of 62 countries have announced their participation so far, making IJSO Qatar 2019 the biggest ever in the event’s history.
