Globally-renowned Filipino singers Martin Nievera and Lani Misalucha are all set to serenade Filipino workers in Qatar with their timeless hits during the upcoming World Alliance Middle East Tour at Aspire Ladies Sports Hall on Thursday.
The concert organised by Star Media Production is in partnership with the Global Police Community Relations (Global PCR), a programme of the Philippine National Police (PNP), and Doha City Event Management & Services.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Gobal PCR Director General Rhodel Sermonia stressed the importance of the Middle East tour as a platform for PNP to reach out to Filipinos overseas and their families.
He said, “This concert is an opportunity for us to have a wider audience and at the same time to create a stronger awareness from among Filipino communities. Global PCR is a programme of PNP aimed at connecting with our compatriots abroad. There are more than 10 million of them all over the world and here in Doha, we have around 250,000.
“We want to tell our fellow Filipinos that their national police is protecting and serving the Filipino people within the Philippines and worldwide. The programme is inclusive in such a way that while the mandate of the PNP to serve and protect the Filipinos is highlighted, we also want those who work overseas to work with peace of mind knowing that their loved ones are well-protected back home.”
Sermonia also underlined that Nievera, known as the Concert King of the Philippines, and Misalucha, also known as the Asia’s Nightingale, were chosen as Global PCR Ambassadors because of the pride and honour they have given to the country as internationally-celebrated talents.
Nievera, who is performing in Qatar for the third time, expressed his excitement for the opportunity to entertain at the same time inspire Filipinos in the Middle East through the platform of Global PCR.
He said, “We want them to forget about their problems for a couple of hours and remember their country. This is the first time for Lani and I to be involved in something like this. Together with Global PCR, we were able to utilise what we do naturally, that is to entertain, inspire, travel and see Filipinos in different parts of the world to let them know they are loved, they are thought about and we care about them.”
Misalucha, who is gracing the Doha stage for the first time, said they are keen on giving a great show that the around 250,000-strong Filipinos in Qatar will remember.
“We will be giving them a good show and beautiful music for them to laugh with us or perhaps to sing with us. For the next three shows we are going to perform in the Middle East, including here in Qatar, we will give the audience a great time,” said Misalucha.
Doha City Event Management CEO & Managing Director Victor Magnipes urged the Filipino community in Qatar for support, emphasising the lifetime opportunity to see two great Filipino talents live on stage.
On Wednesday, the artistes and Global PCR delegation will visit the Migrant Workers & Other Overseas Filipinos Resource Center to meet with around 160 distressed Filipinos temporarily under the care of the Philippine Overseas Labour Office.
