Qatar is participating in the 41st session of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) General Conference which opened in Rome on June 22.
Qatar’s delegation to the meeting was led by Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Engineer Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al Subaie.
The meetings, attended by HE Abdulaziz bin Ahmed al Malki, Qatar’s ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations agencies in Rome, will see the election of a new director-general of the organisation for which three countries -- France, China and Georgia -- are in the race.
At the opening session, the General Conference unanimously elected Qatar’s Minister of Municipality and Environment Engineer Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie as the vice-president of the 41st session.
Qatar has been unanimously elected as a member of the FAO Council for the fourth consecutive session.
Qatar is represented at the FAO Council, which prepares the annual financial budget of the organisation and its projects in the field to eradicate poverty, hunger and undernourishment in the world, by Ambassador Malki.
