Motorists involved in minor road accidents that involve only two cars and no injuries can now report the incident via Metrash2 without visiting traffic investigation offices, the Ministry of Interior's Traffic Department has announced.
In a move to simplify the procedures for motorists, the Traffic Department launched a new minor accidents registration and reporting service via the Ministry's Metrash 2 application at a press conference on Monday.
With the new service, motorists involved in minor accidents are required to take four photographs of each of the vehicles involved in the accident with at least one of them clearly showing the vehicle's number plate after enabling the 'location services' on their mobile phones.
The reporting party can then launch the"accident registration" service on Metrash 2 application and enter the two parties' information such as vehicle number plates, Qatar ID numbers and mobile phone numbers, and send them along with the photographs of the accident.
After reporting the incident, the two parties must move their vehicles to the nearest parking area so as not to obstruct the traffic flow.
Speaking at the press conference, Traffic Department Director Brigadier Mohammed Saad al Kharji said the"minor accident registration" service is the result of the relentless efforts of the MoI's General Directorate of Information Systems to automate and streamline traffic services for motorists in collaboration with the General Directorate of Traffic.
Kharji said the new service allows the two parties involved in a minor accident to skip waiting for traffic patrol officers or going to traffic investigation offices in case they agree on who is at fault as after registering the accident via Metrash 2, all they need to do is wait for a series of text messages that confirm receipt of the report, identify the offending party and grant them a vehicle repair permission, as well as the insurance company the victim should approach.
The vehicle repair police report can then be printed from the MoI's official website or through the insurance company concerned.
Kharji pointed out that those minor accidents that the new service helps streamline represent around 90 percent of the accidents registered by the Traffic Department.
He said the new procedure will be later evaluated and the authorities are currently working on including accidents involving more than two parties in the service.
The MoI initiative follows the ministry's opening of five traffic investigation offices at insurance companies in May, in order to complete the accident registration procedures at one place.
The new service further streamlines this process as the insurance company concerned is determined by traffic officers after inspecting the photographs, while taking into account the location of the accident.
To further explain the new procedure to the public, the MoI released an explanatory video illustrating the accident registration process on its official social media pages.
Citizens and residents can download the Metrash 2 application via their mobile phones' app store or by visiting the ministry's official website for more information.
Besides the newly introduced accident registration service, the multi-lingual application allows its subscribers to benefit from more than 100 government services through their mobile phones, eliminating the need to visit departments and offices, thereby saving them time, money and effort.
