Qatar, represented by the Shura Council, and the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to make Qatar an observer member of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament.
The MoU was signed by Speaker of Qatar’s Shura Council HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud and Latin American and Caribbean Parliament President Elias Castillo, during a meeting at the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament headquarters in Panama.
The two sides agreed to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and political exchanges to boost the bonds of friendship between Qatar and Latin American and Caribbean countries.
The two sides also agreed to work towards overcoming the blockade imposed on Qatar as well as to achieve peace among peoples and to strengthen parliamentary channels of communication between the two parties as well as exchange parliamentary knowledge and expertise in legislative, supervisory and administrative areas.
The meeting also reviewed the issues on the agenda of the 35th General Assembly of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament.
On the sidelines of the 35th General Assembly of the Parliament of Latin American and Caribbean Countries, the Shura speaker met separately with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama Alejandro Ferrer, First Vice-President of the National Assembly of Panama Leandro Avila and President of the Ecuadorian National Assembly Cesar Litardo.
The meetings focused on the existing parliamentary relations between Qatar and each of the countries, and the ways to boost them.
The meetings were attended by Chairman of the Qatari Friendship Committee with Latin American and Caribbean Countries HE Khalid bin Abdullah al Buainain and a number of members of the Qatar Friendship Group with Latin American and Caribbean Countries as well as Ambassador of to Panama HE Saad bin Mubarak al Jafali al Nuaimi.
