Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs (QSRSN) won 22 medals (seven gold, nine silver and six bronze) at the Special Olympics for the differently-abled athletes.
It was organised by Qatar Sports Federation for Special Needs and Qatar School Sports Federation under the auspices of Qatar Olympic Committee.
The three-day school Olympiad was held at the federation headquarters in Al Duhail and Qatar SC stadium. QSRSN’s members and a large group of students in independent schools, private schools and centres specialised in the rehabilitation and education of persons with disabilities in the state participated in the event.
The competition covered a variety of sports, including sprints (60, 100 and 200 metres), jumping, throwing and boccia — a game for athletes with impairments that affect motor skills.
Taleb Afifah, member of the Board of Directors of QSRSN, said the Olympics seeks to provide opportunities for students with disabilities in all educational institutions in Qatar to participate in sporting events.
