Dr Ali bin Smaikh al Marri was unanimously re-elected as the Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) on Monday. Dr Mohammed Saif al Kuwari was elected as Vice-Chairman. Mariam bint Abdullah al Attiyah was also elected as General Secretary of the NHRC, a rapporteur for the committee.
This came during the first meeting of the fifth session of the NHRC members headed by Dr Yousef Obaidan, who is the oldest member of the committee.
The meeting discussed a number of related issues and the members of the committee were placed in three subcommittees — Reporting and Legislation Committee, the Monitoring and Visits Committee, and the Research and Studies Committee. (QNA)
